Service Apprentice
The Apprentice Roofer supports commercial roofing crews with installation, repair, maintenance, and jobsite support activities, like site cleanup, while developing trade skills through hands on training. This role focuses on safety, reliability, and workmanship fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities- Professional Representation (Clock-In to Clock-Out)
- Represents the company at all times while on the clock; maintains professionalism from clock-in to clock-out (appearance, language, behavior, and customer interaction).
- Maintains a clean jobsite presence at customers' facilities, suppliers, and public areas during travel and breaks.
- Treats customers, administration and teammates with respect and professionalism.
- Safety (Non-Negotiable)
- Uses required PPE and follows all fall protection rules 100% of the time when exposure exists.
- Assists with safe setup and teardown: ladder staging, controlled drop zones, cones, and housekeeping.
- Follows safe tool handling practices (knives, fasteners, drills, heat welders and torches where applicable) and maintains awareness of hazards (skylights, edges, overhead lines, weather).
- Immediately reports unsafe conditions, near-misses, or damaged equipment to the Leadman/Foreman.
- Roofing Support & Skill Development
- Assists with material staging, loading/unloading, rooftop organization, and debris control.
- Learns and performs basic tasks under supervision: surface prep, cleaning, priming, simple patch prep, fastener/plate handling, walkway pad support, and detail assistance.
- Follows work instructions and manufacturer requirements as directed.
- Quality Support
- Executes assigned tasks to standard and asks for verification on critical details before the crew moves forward.
- Maintains a "do it right the first time" mindset no shortcuts, no hidden defects, no leaving an incomplete or low-confidence condition.
Documentation Support
- Supports the Leadman/Foreman with accurate information needed for closeout and documentation.
Required
- Ability to work safely at heights and in varying weather conditions on commercial job sites.
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to learn and accept coaching.
- Ability to lift/carry roofing materials and tools (commonly 50+ lbs) and perform physical work throughout the shift.
- Basic tool awareness and ability to follow instructions and jobsite rules.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Prior construction or roofing exposure
- OSHA 10 (or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe).
- Comfort working in occupied facilities (professional demeanor, cleanliness, customer awareness).
