Minnesota State Mankato's Department of Social Work's Child Welfare Stipend Program began as a sub contractual relationship with U of M School of Social Work's Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) in Spring 2005 with the BSSW Program. In FY13 the MSW program developed a direct contract with Mn DHS to provide a graduate child welfare stipend program. In 2014, the BSSW program moved its CWP from a subcontract relationship with CASCW to a combined program, Department of Social Work direct responsibility for all contractual obligations including tracking graduates for up to three years post-graduation.

The goal of the CWP is to prepare graduates at the BSSW and MSW level to work in public or tribal child welfare agencies across Minnesota. The Department of Social Work's CWP at Minnesota State Mankato provides financial support to students each semester. The goal of the CWP is to prepare graduates at the BSSW and MSW level to work in public or tribal child welfare agencies across Minnesota.

The MSW and BSSW CWP tracks and provides support for students.

The Child Welfare Program Student Support Coordinator is a twelve month position and will be responsible for the implementation of the federal and state funded MSW and BSSW Title IV-E Child Welfare Program Training contract awarded by Minnesota Department of Human Services.

1. These responsibilities include budget and report management including coordinating the annual Child Welfare Stipend Program contract proposals, renewal processes and annual program reports and evaluations;

2. This person will maintain a data management program and related reports.

3. This person will coordinate the Child Welfare Program's marketing and web-based/social media activities; support for recruitment and retention of child welfare stipend recipients, provide support to and monitor student stipend recipients in the completion of all in-program and post-graduation related activities and documents;

4. Monitors student's academic progress and post-graduation employment payback progress through Department of Social Works' student management database.

5. This person will provide support for and coordination of child and family related training and programs on campus and in the community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Social Work masters degree from an accredited social work program.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as LGSW or higher.
  • Ability to travel, including overnight travel.
Preferred Qualification
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate social work education.
  • Ability to interpret and implement departmental, institutional, state, and federal laws and policies related to education and human service data privacy laws, social work education, and child welfare professional practice.
  • Specific interest in and/or experience with children and families, preferably in rural communities.
  • Able to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, staff, faculty and professionals of diverse backgrounds with strong interpersonal and cross cultural oral and communication skills.
  • Experience with grants, contracts, and/or budgets.
  • Skill in word processing, spreadsheets and database software, and reports/graphs.
  • Experience in working in collaborative programs, initiatives or teams.
  • Able to handle multiple projects with strong multitasking skills.
