Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance for the school assigned, including counseling services.
- Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
- Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
- Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
- Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness.
- Counsel individuals and small groups about their concerns.
- Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant personnel to enhance their work with students.
- Work with school personnel and district residents to obtain resources for students.
- Use an effective referral process to help students and others access special programs and services.
- Participate in planning and evaluation of the campus standardized testing program.
- Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately.
- Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure they meet identified needs.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and make changes based on findings.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Report to work in a timely manner according to the assigned schedule.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
- A master s degree in guidance and counseling.
- Valid Texas counseling certificate.
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Teaching experience preferred.
