Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance for the school assigned, including counseling services.
  • Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
  • Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
  • Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
  • Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups about their concerns.
  • Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant personnel to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school personnel and district residents to obtain resources for students.
  • Use an effective referral process to help students and others access special programs and services.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation of the campus standardized testing program.
  • Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately.
  • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure they meet identified needs.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and make changes based on findings.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to the assigned schedule.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
Qualifications
  • A master s degree in guidance and counseling.
  • Valid Texas counseling certificate.
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
