What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a Senior Director of Operations who will be responsible for leading all aspects of distribution operations, including inbound and outbound logistics, warehouse management, transportation, inventory control, facilities, and safety. This executive role drives operational strategy, efficiency, and continuous improvement to ensure best‑in‑class service, cost control, and scalability in a high‑volume grocery distribution environment.
The Senior Director will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and partner with executive leadership to align operational performance with company growth objectives, delivering operational excellence, superior customer service, and a safe, high‑performing workplace culture.
Responsibilities:Operations Management
- Set goals and manage operational expenses for all operations at or below budgeted expenses
- Plan and manage operations budget
- Establish measures to manage and monitor the productivity of operations
- Plan/Implement/Evaluate sound systems and procedures to meet productivity and customer satisfaction goals
- Strategic planning, prepare, and conduct operations staff meetings on a regular basis
- Plan/Allocate work
- Daily – stocking/picking/driver/receiving/Chex grounds
- Tradeshow/Holiday shipping preparation
- Stocking needs based on priority/Organize next day product receiving
- Align labor needs with job requirements, reducing overtime while completing all tasks
- Inspecting/Verifying job quality
- Develops standards and implement procedures for:
Picking accuracy, Receiving accuracy, Stocking efficiency, credits, driver idle time and safe driving
- Develops standards and implement procedures for:
- Training/Coaching
- Hire, train, develop, motivate, supervise, and review and evaluate the performance of warehouse and driver personnel.
- Optimize warehouse layout and slotting
- Responsible for a safe, clean, well‑organized work environment
- Responsible for overall inventory control and inventory accuracy.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and lead bi‑annual inventory count.
- Effectively maintains appointment schedules. Plans, schedules, and handles logistics for all customer deliveries and backhauls.
- Routes all trucks, schedules pickups and schedule’s part time drivers as needed on daily basis;
Cube out trucks and plan daily loads - Ensures timely deliveries and receipt of merchandise to maximize sales.
- Monitor delivery performance and DOT compliance
- Manage the fleet
- Routes all trucks, schedules pickups and schedule’s part time drivers as needed on daily basis;
- Manage appointment calendar for all incoming freight
- Resolve issues with trucking companies
- Negotiate freight rates for inbound and outbound shipments
- Manage and promptly resolve problems with Chex trucks; arrange for regularly scheduled maintenance.
- Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of grounds and facilities
- Manage landscaping and lawn care.
- Ensure that the organization follows all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to worker’s compensation and OSHA.
- 3‑5 years of previous experience in operations management; 5‑7 years of supervisory experience, ideally, in a distribution warehouse setting.
- Transportation logistics and distribution experience
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience in managing mergers and acquisitions on the operations side
- Effective communication skills
- Management skills – planning, organizing, administration
- Leadership skills
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point - High level business and management acumen
- In‑depth knowledge of New England geography.
- Inventory management / cycle counting
- Degree in business/operations management preferred
