Special Education Preschool Teacher

Description:
Providing instruction for special education preschool classroom
NOTE:
The below lists are not ranked in order of importance
Essential Functions:
Ensure safety of students
Teach and evaluate the students using sound instructional practices
Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning
environment
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and
interests of students
Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations
utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
Prepare clear and timely lesson plans
Provide complete lesson plans for substitute
Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required
Notify parents and administration if student is not meeting classroom goals
Identify student needs, and cooperate with other professional staff in assessing and helping
students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
Assist in implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating handicapped pupils
Develop IEPs for children; assist in scheduling IEP conferences
Assist coordination of activities between the school district and outside agencies
Serve as a member of IAT and IEP teams as required
Ensure that the IEP goals/objectives for students are met
Attend parent/teacher conferences
Attend meetings and in-services as required
Attend educational field trips
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective communication
and conferences
Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
Assist with record keeping tasks and individual records of all children recommended to receive
special education services or those enrolled in special education
Maintain and evaluate test scores to monitor progress of students
Compile and maintain an accurate inventory of special education materials
Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., students IEPs, testing information,
student and staff information
Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
Maintain and improve professional competence
Observe ethics of the teaching profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and
sound judgement
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials and facilities
Other
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interact with public in official capacity when required
Interact with Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information as requested
Serve as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible,
intelligent human beings
Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
Assist in the determination of appropriate curriculum, materials, supplies, and texts in
cooperation with the Preschool Director and/or Director of Education
Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc., to keep current on relevant issues
Discipline students when necessary
Refer attendance, health, and emotional problems to Preschool Director and/or Guidance
Counselor
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university
Personnel providing preschool services shall hold one of the following licenses in accordance
with Chapter 3301-24 of the Administrative Code:
a. A valid Ohio special education teaching certificate or license with endorsement for
preschool special needs or pre-kindergarten;
b. A valid pre-kindergarten teaching certificate with endorsement for preschool special
needs
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education
may find appropriate
