Salary Range: $80,000 to $84,000 (Based on Qualifications and Experience)
Location: State Support Team – Region 7 Service Area
DescriptionOhio’s State Support Teams ("SST") partner with prioritized schools and districts to establish Integrated Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The Regional Literacy Specialist supports school districts in implementing evidence‑based literacy strategies, professional development, coaching, and data‑driven improvement plans to strengthen instruction and meet student outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree in reading, literacy education, or a related area with state license endorsements in reading or literacy.
- Proven expertise in implementing high‑quality, evidence‑based reading/literacy strategies.
- Completion of a professional development program accredited by the International Dyslexia Association.
- 3–5 years of classroom teaching experience in reading/literacy instruction (K‑12).
- Experience providing professional development and technical assistance in language and literacy.
- Experience coaching and consulting educators or leaders.
- Experience designing and implementing district‑wide or school‑wide integrated multi‑tiered systems of supports.
- Knowledge of analyzing and using student and adult implementation data.
- Experience working with administrators and facilitating collaborative problem‑solving.
- Experience in special education instruction with a master’s degree in special education or an intervention specialist license.
- Experience coaching structured literacy instruction and interpreting screening measures for students at risk.
- Experience facilitating and interpreting screening measures for identifying students at risk for reading failure.
Submit a yearly professional development plan to the Department of Education and Workforce and attend any statewide training offered through the Read Ohio Network. Allocate 5‑7 days annually for content‑expert training.
Responsibilities- Provide intensive coaching and technical assistance aligned with Ohio’s Coaching Model to designated districts and schools.
- Facilitate comprehensive needs analysis using data tools such as the Reading Tiered Fidelity Inventory and district profiles.
- Develop and monitor coaching delivery plans with defined strategies and action steps.
- Support collaborative problem‑solving models at district, building, teacher, and multidisciplinary team levels.
- Assist in professional learning needs identification and facilitation of coaching sessions for literacy improvement.
- Assist in designing and implementing decision rules using the 1‑MTSS guide.
- Analyze universal screening and summative data with coaches and staff.
- Assist with selection, implementation, and monitoring of high‑quality literacy instructional materials aligned to the science of reading.
- Provide classroom‑level coaching services to support educators in applying science‑based strategies.
- Engage educators and administrators in leveled coaching models (universal, self‑guided, small group, one‑on‑one).
- Collaborate with district leaders to align literacy improvement with district plans (One Plan, Local Literacy Plan, Reading Achievement Plan).
- Deliver systems‑level coaching to district leadership on building leadership teams and reading plans.
- Offer technical assistance for literacy‑specific online courses and professional learning series.
- Support implementation of literacy MTSS, inclusive plans, and action steps across all tiers.
- Participate in regional literacy networking through communities of practice.
Requires travel and a valid Ohio driver’s license with a functional vehicle. Must provide a clear criminal record and meet public health requirements. Proficient with office equipment including computer, telephone, projector, and copier.
Working ConditionsSalary position with potential extended hours. Work under time constraints to meet deadlines and attend required meetings and trainings as determined by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
