Overview

The School Dean of Students provides leadership in creating and maintaining a positive, safe, and academically focused school environment. The Dean works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, students, families, and community partners to support student achievement, attendance, behavior, social-emotional growth, and school culture. The position combines academic support responsibilities with student discipline and behavior management to ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Student Behavior and School Culture
  • Promote and maintain a positive school climate that supports student learning and well-being.
  • Implement and monitor school-wide behavior expectations and positive behavior interventions.
  • Investigate and address student disciplinary concerns in accordance with district policies and the student code of conduct.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and behavior intervention plans.
  • Conduct student conferences and collaborate with families regarding behavioral concerns.
  • Monitor student attendance and address chronic absenteeism and tardiness.
  • Coordinate interventions and support services for at-risk students.
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and other school functions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student discipline, attendance, and intervention efforts.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, community agencies, and PBIS teams to support student needs.
Academic Leadership and Student Achievement
  • Monitor student academic progress and identify students requiring academic intervention.
  • Coordinate academic support programs, tutoring opportunities, and intervention services.
  • Work with teachers and intervention teams to develop strategies for improving student performance.
  • Participate in data analysis related to student achievement, attendance, and behavior.
  • Support the implementation of school improvement initiatives and academic goals.
  • Assist with state testing coordination and student accountability measures.
  • Meet regularly with students experiencing academic difficulties to establish goals and monitor progress.
  • Support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), and intervention planning processes.
  • Collaborate with teachers to promote student engagement, motivation, and academic success.
Staff and Family Collaboration
  • Serve as a resource to teachers regarding classroom management and student support strategies.
  • Provide coaching and assistance in implementing positive behavior supports.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Participate in parent conferences, intervention meetings, and team meetings.
  • Assist in planning and delivering professional development related to student behavior, engagement, and school culture.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Family Engagement Plan and the Family Liaison.
Leadership And Administrative Responsibilities
  • Support the building administration in implementing district and building initiatives.
  • Participate in building leadership teams, student support teams, school improvement committees, and administrative meetings.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and school safety planning.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information
  • Provide coverage at extracurricular activities as needed (i.e., academic and Athletic).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by district or building administration.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Valid state educator license.
  • Minimum of three years of successful experience working with students, preferably at the level assigned.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student behavior management, intervention strategies, and personal development.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Administrative licensure or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience with PBIS, MTSS, and student data analysis.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong understanding of student developmental needs at the assigned level.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of effective behavior management and intervention practices.
  • Ability to analyze academic and behavioral data to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

The Dean of Students works in a school setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and community members. The position may require attendance at evening events and extracurricular activities as needed.
