EHS Specialist

IDEAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, a 123-year-old, independent American manufacturer of high-power, specialty electric motors, generators, power systems and controls seek an experienced EHS Specialist. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities to achieve company environmental, health, and safety goals while upholding a culture of ethics, integrity, and excellence in everything we do.

This position is based in our facility in Mansfield, Ohio reporting to the QMS & Compliance Manager and plays a key role in protecting our workforce and surrounding community throughout the product manufacturing lifecycle. The EHS Specialist will be charged with being an active Safety presence on the Ideal Electric production floor, ensuring safety policies and environmental workflows are fully integrated into daily activities.

This position requires access or potential access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. To meet the NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship, attest that you do not have dual citizenship, and are otherwise eligible to access and manage regulated information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure Ideal Electric's complete operational compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide EHS policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Conduct routine plant safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments.
  • Lead all workplace incident investigations, identify root causes, and track corrective/preventive actions to closure.
  • Maintain all EHS documentation and compliance records required under OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Coordinate, develop, and deliver safety training and awareness programs for all facility employees.
  • Monitor, track, and report on environmental metrics, waste management, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support regulatory environmental audits and interface directly with government agencies when necessary.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures consistently and fairly across the company.
  • Collaborate with production and cross-functional teams to integrate safety and ergonomics into daily operations.
  • Participate in management reviews of the EHS systems to identify continuous improvement targets for plant safety.
  • Maintain an active, visible presence on the production floor to serve as the subject matter expert for plant safety.

DESIRED QUALIFICATONS &

COMPETENCIES:

  • Must have the ability to work full time at the Ideal Electric Mansfield, Ohio facility. This is not a remote work position.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety role within a manufacturing setting.
  • Prior experience working in a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment is required.
  • Thorough working knowledge of OSHA general industry regulations and EPA standards.
  • EHS certifications (such as ASP, CSP, or OSHA 30-Hour) are highly desired but not required.
  • Must be able to interpret basic technical data, regulatory texts, and safety data sheets (SDS).
  • A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical area is desired but not required. Relevant work experience will be heavily considered in place of a degree.
  • Strong root cause analysis capabilities regarding workplace accidents or near-misses.
  • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills; proficiency with MS Word and Excel is required.
  • US citizenship is required in this role due to NOFORN/CUI constraints.
  • Ability to multitask, manage competing safety priorities, and handle stressful situations calmly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to deliver effective safety training to shop floor employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND

WORK HOURS:

  • Daily minimum of 8 hours. Weekly 40-hour minimum.
