- Install, repair and replace cylinder and key locks and door closers
- Install panic bars and/or related locking hardware/devices
- Lubricate and adjust locks and locking devices (e.g., change combinations on safes, replace tumblers and/or padlocks)
- Repair electronic locking devices
- Install deadbolts, make master locks and keys
- Make new keys using various machinery (e.g., key duplicator, key cutter, grinder) for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets and carts, fire alarm boxes and other items
- Maintain and repair parts fabrication of locks in cell blocks, doors, cabinets and/or safes
- Perform preventive maintenance on locks and doors (e.g., inspect locks for wear and malfunction, change locking devices for security purposes, lubricate, align)
- Operate personal computer to prepare and maintain work‑related records, documentation and/or reports
- Keep records of all door locks within facility
- Maintain identification of keys and keep records of keys issued
- Maintain inventory of parts, material and equipment needed and issue, and prepare requisitions
- Prepare periodic reports and respond to information requests
- Repair doors, frames and/or hinges if needed for lock repair
- Make chits (i.e., identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles and other devices as needed
- Maintain, program and enter information in electronic key system (i.e., Morse Watchman)
- Serve on institutional committees
- Attend training, seminars and/or meetings as required
- Perform security functions as required (e.g., man‑down, shakedown, inmate movement)
- Perform other duties as assigned
12 months training or 12 months experience in locksmithing; 3 months training or 3 months experience in inventory control. Or equivalent minimum qualifications.
