Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Technician
Position Description
Mid‑Level Diesel Technician – Mansfield, Ohio. Weekly pay and excellent benefits provide a stable career at Ryder.
Hourly Pay: $25.00 per hour. Certification Bonus up to $700 for each new ASE certification. Quarterly Bonus up to $500. Sign‑On Bonus $1,250 at 30 days and $1,250 at 90 days.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday (weekends OFF). Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or technical certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake, tire work)
- Two (2) years or more of combined classroom training and work experience preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A preferred
- Must be able to obtain CDL within six months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check and a road test, and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
Responsibilities- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
- Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections
- Conduct preventive maintenance
- Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable
- Identify root causes of basic failures or conditions and perform repairs as required
- Replace defective components as instructed
- Carry out facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers or drivers to determine nature of complaints once assigned a task
- Use key functions of the shop management system and electronic documentation available
- Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
- Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to service island support
