Pastoral Resident

Employee Status: Regular Full-Time

Classification: Exempt

Primary Reporting Relationship: Worship & Next Gen Pastor

Secondary Reporting Relationship: Senior Pastor

General Summary

The Pastoral Resident is responsible for finding, equipping, and supporting leaders for the work of ministry. In addition to the ministry duties set forth below, his role consists mostly of directing, coaching, and executing the vision of the church while ensuring alignment with the church’s mission and core values. He will be a passionate leader, building teams of staff and volunteers by engaging, supporting, and equipping them with the intent to build a strong pipeline of leaders and relational disciple-making groups throughout the church.

He will lead others, self, and his family to live according to the church’s teaching and practices. He will carry out the church’s mission and perform his duties consistent with the church’s theological beliefs and standards.

Goals and Expectations

Disciple-Making and Leader Development – 30%

  • Enlist, equip, and empower disciple-making staff, coaches, leaders, and volunteers.
  • Personally engage in Disciple-Making through Life Groups and D-Groups
  • Provide ongoing leadership training and development for assigned leadership teams
  • Produce Disciple-making leaders who multiply and support the church’s vision.

Formation – 20%

  • Participate in Monthly Formation time with the Worship & Next Gen Pastor
  • Read 1-2 Books a Month for Spiritual formation and professional development
  • Participate in Monthly Staff Formation Time and occasional retreats/conferences as needed

Preaching – 20%

  • Participate in Weekly Worship Review meetings with Senior Pastor and Worship Pastor
  • Preach minimum 1-2 Times a year in Corporate Worship
  • Develop and Implement Sermon Feedback Team for Weekly Feedback on Preaching

Ministry – 30%

  • Lead in a ministry area of the church as determined by the Senior Pastor (i.e. Young Adults, Assimilation)
  • Plan, coordinate and execute seasonal events (Marriage Retreats, Men’s/Women’s Conferences, etc.)
Qualifications
  • Education and/or Experience
    • Master’s degree in theology from a nationally accredited seminary or equivalent
    • An aspiration to serve as a Senior Pastor
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Desire to enlist, equip and empower volunteers for ministry
    • Ability to develop leaders and grow ministry
    • Desire to work collaboratively on a team
    • Vision for a Disciple-Making church
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers, church members or staff members of the organization.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Must have a working knowledge for the use of internet, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
  • Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates
    • Current Driver License
    • Licensed or Commissioned for Ministry.

  • Attend new employee orientation including training on the church covenant membership and disciple-making leaders
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuing education in theology, evangelism, and leadership development

  • Conduct personal life and lead family according to the church’s teaching and practices.
  • Acknowledgement of policies and procedures as stated in the church’s Staff Handbook, Safety Handbook, and Financial Handbook
