Job Description

The Chaplain will provide pastoral care to patients, families and staff in an assigned parish area at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. You will participate in the ministry of the department by providing pastoral care, spiritual support, and emotional support to patients, families, and staff. You will be responsible for on‑call duty as needed and hospital rounding.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Masters of Theology or Equivalent, or in the process of obtaining a Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 4 units ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • Ability to relate to people of all ages, all religions, cultures, and ethnic groups.
  • Ordination and/or endorsement from appropriate religious body (completed or in process).
  • Board Certified Chaplain, or obtain Board Certification within 2 years of hire.
Job Responsibilities
  • Participate in the ministry of the department by providing pastoral care, spiritual support, and emotional support to patients and families through regular rounding, clinical assignments, and responding to all hospital codes.
  • Participate in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program as a mentor.
  • Assist in locating and contacting next of kin for patients arriving in ED via ambulance.
  • Coordinate and facilitate release and transport of deceased bodies to appropriate agency.
  • Interface with external agencies/organizations inclusive of funeral homes, medical examiners, organ and tissue donation, community support groups, religious organizations.
  • Provide grief support and counseling as appropriate to deceased’s family and friends.
  • Collaborate with local religious leaders, chaplain volunteers, visiting clergy and spiritual caregivers.
  • Participate in other pastoral and administrative duties as assigned under the direction of the clinical manager.
  • Provide staff support through regular rounding, organized support programs, and debriefings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
