Position Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring maximum uptime, reliability, and performance of CNC machines and related production equipment within the machine shop. This role supports production operations by performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager.
Job Responsibilities- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on CNC machines (mills, lathes, multi‑axis machines, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnose and resolve CNC control issues (Siemens, Heidenhain, other as required).
- Minimize machine downtime and support production schedules.
- Maintain maintenance logs and service records.
- Update preventive maintenance schedules and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
- Manage spare parts inventory and critical components.
- Liaise with OEMs and external service providers.
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Lead development and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
- Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs.
- Recommend equipment upgrades, retrofits, and modifications.
- Lead technology transfer of manufacturing processes/products, including fixture design, process validation, work instructions, sampling plans, process controls, test methods, and measurement techniques.
- Analyze root causes of equipment failures.
- Perform emergency breakdown repairs.
- Coordinate closely with machine operators and production supervisors.
- Shop floor environment.
- Exposure to noise, coolant, oil, and metal chips.
- May require shift work or on‑call support.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a CNC or precision machining environment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC systems and industrial automation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Computer skills:
Word, Excel, Project, statistical software. - Project management skills – ability to lead projects from concept to production implementation.
- Experience with multi‑axis machining centers.
- Knowledge of robotics or automated material handling systems.
- Certification in industrial maintenance or reliability (e.g., CMRP, CMRT).
- Experience using CMMS systems.
Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 annually. The final pay may vary based on geographic location and candidate experience.
