Overview
Our hospital provides high-quality care that transforms the lives of patients with disabling injuries and illnesses. This Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides general nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
Essential Functions- Provides skilled nursing care to patients as ordered by the physician and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Implements orders for medications and treatments as ordered by the physician and in accordance with nursing care plan written by the Registered Nurse.
- Provides information to the Registered Nurse to assist in the development of an individualized plan of care.
- Participates in evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions, seeks guidance when necessary.
- Reports to supervisor on patient care rendered, problems concerning patients’ needs, and resolution to those needs.
- Helps identify patient problems and potential risks and contributes to the development of interventions.
- Assists in identifying patient’s learning needs and reinforces self‑care and other techniques.
- Appropriately designates applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital’s established system.
- May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
- Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff; assesses risks and implements precautions.
- Complies with approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
- Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
- Completes required trainings as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience: Two years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting; inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Documentation: Current state license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse; current BLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice, infection prevention standards, accreditation standards (TJC, CMS); knowledge of clinical operations and procedures; demonstrates general computer skills; critical thinking; organizational and time‑management; written and verbal communication; prioritization; ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection prevention standards; work independently and confidentially; work closely and professionally with others at all levels.
Physical RequirementsA significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods; gross and precise motor functions; lifting up to 50 lbs; possible exposure to bodily fluids; visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation; acute hearing required; sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
