The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in driving sales, execution, and operational excellence within the bakery department. This role ensures high-quality product presentation, maintains food safety standards, and delivers exceptional customer service while leading and supporting bakery team members.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations & Execution
* Assist in overseeing daily bakery operations, including production, merchandising, and inventory control
* Ensure all bakery products meet company quality, freshness, and presentation standards
* Execute production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink
* Maintain proper rotation (FIFO) and dating of all products
* Support pricing accuracy and promotional execution
Leadership & Team Support
* Supervise, train, and coach bakery clerks and decorators
* Provide direction and support during shifts to maintain productivity and service levels
* Assist with scheduling and labor management to meet business needs
* Promote a positive, team-focused work environment
Customer Service
* Deliver excellent customer service by engaging with customers and addressing inquiries
* Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
* Ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming department
Food Safety & Compliance
* Ensure adherence to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
* Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and audit standards
* Monitor cleanliness of equipment, cases, and production areas
Inventory & Financial Performance
* Assist in inventory management, ordering, and receiving processes
* Help control shrink and waste through proper ordering and production planning
* Support achieving sales, margin, and labor targets
Qualifications
* Previous experience in bakery operations or food retail preferred
* Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Knowledge of bakery production, food safety, and sanitation standards
* Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
* Ability to stand for extended periods
* Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
* Repetitive tasks such as decorating, slicing, and stocking
* Ability to work in refrigerated environments
