  • Maintain a high standard of safety, conduct and performance, promote the goals and objectives of the division, and lead by example.
  • Ensure that all work being performed on the utility system meets local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Complete and maintain accurate work order, equipment, and inventory records.
  • Use preventative maintenance and repair programs to extend equipment life, and aid in the reliability and effectiveness of all utility field operation departments and activities.
  • Conduct on the job training of individual crew members in the proper use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Ensure that all assigned crew members receive proper technical training designed to improve their skills, knowledge and job performance.
  • Implement and direct jobsite safety procedures to protect the well being of the assigned crew and the general public.
  • Relay any customer complaint, including detailed records of events, to the Crew Supervisor or Operations Manager.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to repair, maintain and operate drinking water distribution, and sanitary sewer collection systems.
  • Ability to direct and complete utility repair and maintenance task, operate heavy equipment including back hoe, front end loader, and maintain a safe job site for personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with superiors and subordinates regarding assigned task and individual performance.
  • Ability to use and train others in the proper use of all equipment (mole, air compressor, ditch witch) used in the daily maintenance and operation of the distribution and collection systems.
  • Ability to work stand‑by and direct emergency repairs on the water and sewer system.
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations for the proper operation and maintenance of a drinking water distribution and wastewater collection system.
  • Ability to perform duties other than those previously listed as may be required.
  • Evidence of the experience, knowledge, skill, ability, and responsibility necessary in the performance of assigned duties and the ability to effectively direct crew members in their duties.
  • Must be able to work Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and Beyond normal shift as required.
  • Must be able to work rotating on‑call duties.
  • Minimum of three years of utility field maintenance experience.
  • Ability to perform duties other than those previously listed as may be required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND

EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Education or Equivalent
  • Valid State of Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Possession of a Class C Water Distribution License issued by the State of Texas.
  • Possession of a Class II Wastewater Collection License issued by the State of Texas.
  • Minimum of three years of utility field maintenance experience.
  • Evidence of the experience, knowledge, skill, ability, and responsibility necessary in the performance of assigned duties and the ability to effectively direct crew members in their duties.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays and beyond normal shift as required.
  • Must be able to work rotating on-call basis.

DESIRED TRAINING AND

EXPERIENCE:

  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester License issued by the State of Texas.
  • Customer Service Inspector license issued by the State of Texas
  • Licensed Irrigator Certification issued by the State of Texas
  • Class B Water Distribution License issued by the State of Texas
  • Class III Wastewater Collection License issued by the State of Texas

  • The physical activity of this position
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
