Wastewater Maintenance Worker

The City of Manteca is seeking Wastewater Maintenance Workers. This position is covered under the California Public Employees' Retirement System. The following plans are applicable:
Classic Tier I: 2.7% @ 55 Employee Contribution: 8% Classic Tier II: 2% @ 60 Employee Contribution: 7% PEPRA: 2% @ 62 Employee Contribution: 7.75%.

The City offers various Medical Plan options through CALPERS. Single: $1,050 Employee +1: $2,000 Family: $2,700 Stipend: $800 (opt out of Medical). Benefits offered through Delta Dental & VSP City Pays 100% of Premium Costs. Employees shall receive coverage upon being employed one full calendar month. The City shall pay all premium costs for life insurance coverage. (Supplemental coverage available) 1 - 4 years = $8,500 Group Life Insurance 5 - 9 years = $10,000 Group Life Insurance 10+ years = Group Life Insurance coverage equal to emp.

Employees shall receive 83.2 hours of wellness leave for use in each fiscal year earned with no rollover. There is a cash out option at the end of each fiscal year. Employees shall accrue 96 hours of sick leave annually for each full month of continuous service. Accures per pay period. Employees will receive three (3) floating holidays the first pay period in July of each year.

Employees will not be allowed to carryover the floating holidays. The floating holidays cannot be cashed out in lieu of taking the day off.

12 Fixed Holidays. Employees with ten years of continuous employment are eligible for 20% of one month's base salary. $300 per fiscal year for steel toe boots. 2.5% of monthly base rate of pay per month for a Bachelors or Masters Degree. Degree must be in the following or related concentrations;
Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Construction Management or related field. (Eligible after probation) 2.5% for Water or Wastewater certification for the next highest-grade certificate. 2.5% for Certified Playground Safety Inspector. All certifications capped at 5%.

Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor or Designee, perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of City wastewater and storm water systems, facilities and related equipment; operate a variety of power-driven and heavy equipment to perform assigned duties.

Distinguishing Characteristics The Wastewater Maintenance Worker I classification is the entry level position in the series and performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of City wastewater and storm water systems, facilities and related equipment. Incumbents work under close supervision while learning job tasks. The Wastewater Maintenance Worker II is the intermediate-level class in the series, performs a broad range of duties with minimal instruction or assistance, and participates in a variety of skilled maintenance and repair activities.

Under the direction of the Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of City wastewater and storm water systems, facilities and related equipment; operate a variety of power-driven and heavy equipment to perform assigned duties.

Distinguishing Characteristics: The Wastewater Maintenance Worker I classification is the entry level position in the series, and performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of City wastewater and storm water systems, facilities and related equipment. Incumbents work under close supervision while learning job tasks. The Wastewater Maintenance Worker II is the intermediate-level class in the series, performs a broad range of duties with minimal instruction or assistance, and participates in a variety of skilled maintenance and repair activities.

Wastewater Maintenance Worker I:

Essential Duties:

Perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of City wastewater and storm water systems, treatment facilities and related equipment; participate in construction projects and system installations as requested.

Assure proper operation and water flow of City storm, collection and distribution systems; unclog sewer and storm lines and laterals as necessary; utilize high-pressure power cleaners, rodders, hydraulic hoses and vacuums to clean and remove sewage from sewer lines; clean up sanitary sewer overflows as requested.

Inspect wastewater facility, lift station and storm pump equipment and systems including valves, pumps, motors, tanks and gauges; diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions; replace system components as needed.

Operate a variety of power driven and heavy equipment including tractors, skip-loaders, jack hammers, welding equipment, compressors, forklifts and hand and power tools; drive a vehicle to conduct work.

Excavate ditches to access underground equipment and systems; repair and replace piping as necessary.
