General Summary
This is a salaried position in Manteno, IL that reports to the Warehouse Manager. The Warehouse/Inventory assistant manager assists the Warehouse Manager in coordinating the receiving, shipping, and material handling responsibilities in the warehouse by designing and developing product movement and storage systems, improving operations, and supporting team members in a hands‑on manner. This position is also responsible for managing the plant‑wide cycle count program, ensuring inventory accuracy, and investigating/explaining any inventory discrepancies.
ScopeOf The Job Function
- Assist Manager in establishing operational procedures for activities such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current.
- Assist in investigations into causes of customer or shipper complaints and respond accordingly.
- Assist in the training of employees, assigning and directing work, and addressing employee relations matters.
- Assist in assigning duties and examine work for quality and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Supervise Shipping, Receiving, and Material Handling teams and oversee the daily logistics operations, carrier arrangements, shipping, tracing, appointment times, and PO status updates.
- Support with supervision of truck loading, order picking accuracy, and receiving.
- Keep a daily inventory of all products, coordinating all warehouse employees in their daily job duties.
- Responsible for all organization and appearance of the warehouse.
- Generate daily inventory cycle count sheets based on ABC analysis for raw materials and finished goods for the Manteno facility.
- Reconcile inventory variances and make inventory count adjustments upon Management approval.
- Report inventory discrepancies and shortages to Management daily.
- Find, research, and resolve root causes of inventory inaccuracies.
- Collaborate with Production to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Process cycle count requests.
- Manage aging inventory.
- Maintain records of all inventory transfers and disposals.
- Perform various duties to assist in the month‑end closing process and procedures.
- Perform periodic physical inventory counts semi‑annually.
- Request shelf‑life extensions for certain products and perform system maintenance to keep accurate records.
- Issue inventory‑related forms when needed – CDR, stock conversion.
- Non‑inventoried items cycle count and re‑ordering.
- Tank farm cycle counts.
- Interface with the Supply Chain Department to manage inventory control and maintain high levels of accuracy in inventory integrity.
- Assure FIFO system is in control, assist production in all their ingredient needs using pick lists, FIFO system, and product traceability procedures.
- Assist the Manager with month‑end closing process with staff.
- Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety.
- A.A./A.S. from a 2‑year college; or 5‑7 years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3‑5 years’ experience in warehousing or logistics with 2‑4 of those years in a supervisory capacity.
- Strong customer service, communication, organizational skills, analytical and problem‑solving, and supervisory leadership.
- Knowledge and creation of Food Plant GMPs and SOPs.
- Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and written.
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow and handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule; may require weekend work.
- Self‑motivated and independent.
- Must have effective coaching, facilitation, presentation, and team‑building skills.
