Equipment Operator

Under the immediate direction of supervisor, the Equipment Operator safely operates plant mobile heavy equipment including yard loader, excavator, water truck, 40‑ton haul truck, etc.

• Must be able to learn to operate mobile equipment such as yard loader, excavator, water truck, loader, haul truck, and crane.
• Assist in plant repairs and clean‑up.
• Perform pre‑shift safety inspection on equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and service mobile equipment and report need for repairs to shop personnel.
• Maintain good housekeeping of equipment.
• Adhere to MSHA and plant safety rules and regulations.
• Perform duties with minimum supervision.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prefer 3–5 years of experience operating heavy mobile equipment.
• Prefer experience with wheel loader.
• Prefer experience loading customer trucks.

• Read equipment operating manual.
• Complete pre‑shift inspection report.
• Communicate in English on radio or CB.
• Basic mathematical aptitude to complete daily reports.
• Wear all required safety equipment.
• Perform duties in a safe manner.
• Read and interpret gauges.
• Work effectively in a team environment.

• Good hand/eye coordination to operate hand/foot controls.
• Good vision to perceive depth up to 150 feet.
• Ability to climb on and off equipment.
• Can bend, stoop, climb, and reach around mobile equipment.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Can sit and operate equipment for long periods up to 10+ hours per day.
• Work outside in all‑weather conditions including heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noise.
• Ability to work at various heights.

Larger equipment is typically air‑conditioned. Some assignments may require working outside in all‑weather conditions, including exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel exhaust, etc.

$41.50/hr + (aligned increases with union contract)
