Facility Operator - Wastewater Utility

Position

Facility Operator at Aqua/Essential Utilities, Manteno, IL. Reports to the Wastewater Plant Supervisor and supports the operation of wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, booster stations, distribution systems, and the central Illinois wastewater collection system. The successful candidate will also assist other facilities in Bourbonnais, Manteno, and Peotone.

• Maintain equipment at the assigned wastewater production facilities and booster stations.
• Maintain equipment at the wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations.
• Operate and maintain sewer collection systems, including collection mains and pump stations.
• Troubleshoot and repair service piping.
• Perform routine water quality analysis in accordance with established processes and procedures.
• Make operational adjustments as needed to comply with state and federal water quality standards.
• Adjust chemical treatment to ensure water quality meets standards.
• Calculate various ratios and dosages.
• Complete customer service work orders: update and maintain appropriate system documentation of activities and close work orders in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.

• High School Diploma (or equivalent).
• Professional experience working with wastewater treatment systems preferred but not required; experience with mechanical, plumbing, and/or electrical systems considered.
• Must obtain an IEPA‑issued Class IV Wastewater Operator License within 18 months of employment.
• Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License.
• Must be able to acquire a CDL (Commercial Driver's License) within 9 months of hire date and obtain a Tanker Endorsement within 30 days after.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel, etc.).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; expected to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally with internal customers.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Team player capable of working effectively in a multi‑tasking environment.

• Must reside within 30–45 minutes of the plant.
• Rotating plant schedule with travel requirements.
• Must be able to lift and move equipment in excess of 50 lbs and work in confined spaces; a lift test required as part of the pre‑employment process.
• May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
• Travel to Essential Utilities work sites and/or other constituents may be required.
• Company vehicle is provided for business purposes only.
• After training, the position requires participation in a rotating on‑call schedule, including nights and weekends.

$30.00/hour - $32.00/hour
