Overview

Office Support Specialist - Financial Assistance

Responsibilities
  • Directly assists the public through face-to-face and telephone contact; provides information and forwards inquiries to the appropriate staff person.
  • Maintains and composes inventory of supplies and forms.
  • Performs standard clerical duties such as maintaining calendars, printing items, data entry, processing faxes or copy requests, processing mailings, accepting payments, processing incoming or outgoing mail, backing up other clerical staff, and ordering office supplies.
  • Scan and index documents and incoming mail into Electronic Document Management System.
  • Completion of Public Assistance Verification Request Forms.
  • Conversational Spanish for client services, as able.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of the programs, policies and procedures of a county office; general knowledge of social services laws and regulations; proficiency with standard office equipment and software; ability to compose and proofread documents; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to organize tasks and workflow with limited direction; basic mathematical ability; ability to process paperwork timely and efficiently; ability to interact with staff and the public effectively.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in a clerical support role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; sedentary work with sitting, speaking or hearing, and repetitive motions; may require standing, walking, reaching, or lifting occasionally; standard vision requirements; vocal communication for spoken interaction; hearing for normal speech; work involves data preparation and analysis, operation of machines, and general observation. No unusual environmental exposure; usually in a moderately noisy office setting.

Special Requirements
  • Driver’s License valid in the State of MN.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in a clerical support role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Driver’s License valid in the State of MN.
Salary/Benefits

Starting wage is $21.68 per hour plus health insurance, life insurance, retirement plan, vacation/sick/holiday pay and many other voluntary benefits. Salary Range: $21.68 - $30.62.
