PositionDescription
The Field Project Manager will oversee and manage heavy highway construction projects. This seasonal union position is approximately 35 weeks per year.
Job OverviewThis role requires knowledge of heavy highway construction practices. The Field Project Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of the construction process, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with plans, specs, and safety regulations.
Primary Responsibilities- Project Planning and Coordination: coordinate with engineers and subcontractors to ensure project requirements are met; review and interpret project plans and specifications; put together and track submittals.
- Construction Management: oversee all construction activities, including excavation, grading, paving, and drainage; monitor progress and quality of work; conduct regular site visits to inspect work progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions; manage and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Schedule and Cost Control: develop and maintain project schedules; review and approve invoices, change orders, and payment requests.
- Safety and Compliance: ensure compliance with all safety regulations, codes, and standards; conduct regular safety meetings and inspections; implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
- Team Leadership and Communication: foster a positive and collaborative work environment; liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to address concerns and maintain positive relationships.
- Physical Work Environment: constant exposure to various weather conditions, noise, dust, and other materials; exposure to heavy equipment, power tools and traffic; exposure to heights up to 50 feet and depths up to 80 feet; required 20/20 vision.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently; moving, carrying, and handling heavy equipment.
- Standing, walking, sitting, using hands to input information; reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing; taste or smell.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent exposure to high noise levels.
- Knowledge of and compliance with all company safety requirements, policies and safety training.
Required
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma / Equivalent.
- 3+ Years of heavy highway construction experience (preferred).
- Expertise in overseeing construction planning, scheduling, and staging.
- General knowledge of maintenance of traffic.
- Organized, able to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Self‑motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to summarize complex information into clear directions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365.
- Ability to travel short trips primarily within Minnesota and eastern Dakotas (estimated at 25%).
