Job DescriptionJob summary: Inspire and prepare students with confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by supporting students and assisting the special education teacher in classroom operations. Work with individual or small groups of students as assigned and provide lunch and recess supervision.
Responsibilities and Tasks- Assist in the implementation of students’ special education instructional plans, including physical and behavioral management.
- Follow through on students’ individual plans in all settings as assigned by the supervising teacher.
- Collect observational data about assigned students in various school settings and report to the supervising teacher.
- Prepare, collect, and maintain educational materials and equipment.
- Assist with staffing, conferences, and other special meetings as requested.
- Complete educational forms, reports, and other student‑related data relevant to the individual student(s) in the special education program.
- Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the team and approved by the Special Education Coordinator/Special Education Supervisor.
- Participate in district training programs prior to and during employment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Applicants must be considered Highly Qualified (HQ) to work as a special education paraprofessional by their start date per the Minnesota Department of Education.
- Applicants meet the Highly Qualified requirement if they have:
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education; a minimum of 60 semester credits or the amount required to complete two years of full‑time enrollment.
- An Associate's (or higher) degree; AA, AS, or AAS.
- Received a passing score on the Para Pro, Para Educator, or Para Pathways assessment (the district will pay for the assessment).
- Ability to perform tasks and work with children, staff, and parents.
- Physical capability to lift and attend to the physical needs of students as required.
Work schedule: 6 hours/day (3.5 hours Special Education, 1.5 hours Instructional, 1 hour Clerical)
FTE: Part‑time;
School Year
