R&D Engineer - Polymer Science / Medical Devices
Location: Maple Grove, MN
Pay Rate: $58 per hour
We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineer with expertise in polymer science and biomaterials to support the development of next-generation cardiovascular implant technologies. This role focuses on polymer membrane design, material characterization, and early-stage product development within a fast‑paced medical device environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, develop, and integrate innovative polymer‑based materials for high‑performance implantable devices.
- Conduct material characterization testing, analytical chemistry analysis, and data interpretation.
- Develop and validate novel test methods for new product applications.
- Prototype concepts and refine materials, coatings, adhesives, and membrane technologies.
- Apply scientific and engineering principles to guide technical decisions across complex development programs.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams.
- Document technical findings, development activities, and change requests.
- Analyze engineering challenges and recommend data‑driven solutions.
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree or 1+ year with a Master's degree.
- Experience in new product development for implants or cardiovascular medical devices.
- Hands‑on experience with medical device polymers, biomaterials, and polymer membrane design.
- Strong analytical testing and problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑starter with the ability to work independently and in team environments.
- Experience in early‑phase product development and PDP lifecycle environments.
- Background in coatings, adhesives, and material optimization.
- Strong communication, technical judgment, and decision‑making skills.
