The R&D Technician II will be responsible for hands on development work including, but not limited to, prototype to pilot manufacturing of new and novel medical devices including implantable devices and catheters. They assist with ongoing training, development, and accountability of all team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Take existing designs and work on design and process improvements to achieve product requirements.
- Document processes and build instructions in a clear and concise manner, and be able to train others to these processes.
- Install, operate, and maintain medical device assembly and testing equipment.
- Provide input to manufacturing process creation and line layout for efficiency and quality.
- Inspect and document components for use in product development builds.
- Assist in product functional and performance testing for the purposes of characterization and verification/validation, following test methods and suggesting refinements to methods.
- Assist in management and maintenance of component inventory to support prototype and other product development builds.
- Create inspection procedures based on print or product specifications.
- Contribute to troubleshooting and root cause analysis of device issues or failures.
- Associate’s or equivalent degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field or 3+ years of experience in medical device development and/or manufacturing
- Experience in a medical device or regulated R&D environment preferred.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical/electrical assembly, testing, and/or laboratory procedures.
- Familiarity medical device development lifecycle.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency in using lab tools, measurement equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, heat guns, microscopes), and test setups.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and data acquisition tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
