Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer (Creo Design)
Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 3 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Candidate Requirements:
This role is working for a major defense contractor. Candidates must be either US Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) to be eligible for this role. Candidates on CPT, OPT, H1B, TN, or other visas are not eligible for this role. Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) - candidates may need to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis).
There would be no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card).
Job Location:
Maple Grove, MN (onsite role, no remote or hybrid work).
Compensation:
$60.75/hr overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.
Benefits:
- Available (health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, etc) - benefit eligibility begins the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
- This role will have 7 paid holidays and 9 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.
HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a leading defense contractor to hire a Mechanical Engineer based at our Maple Grove, MN facility. This role is responsible for the research, design, analysis, development, and support of mechanical systems and components used in defense and military applications. This role supports products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and related equipment.
The engineer will utilize PTC Creo Parametric to develop and maintain product models, assemblies, and drawings while ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical products and systems for defense applications.
- Create and maintain product parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings using PTC Creo Parametric.
- Perform engineering design, development, analysis, testing, and product assurance activities for assigned projects.
- Analyze and interpret design specifications, engineering drawings, models, technical documents, and test results.
- Conduct technical evaluations and investigations using specialized equipment, software tools, and engineering methodologies.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
- Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
- Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing teams to support fabrication, assembly, and production efforts.
- Develop, revise, and maintain technical documentation, reports, procedures, and engineering records.
- Contribute to technical papers, presentations, and production support activities as required.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Support project planning activities, including schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, engineering technologies, and best practices.
- Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and workplace requirements.
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience creating moderately complex solid models and mechanical designs using CAD software.
- Experience working with manufacturing shops or production teams to support design implementation and fabrication.
- Ability to solve moderately complex engineering design and development challenges.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with CAD modeling and drawing generation, preferably using PTC Creo Parametric.
- Understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering analysis, and product development processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Master of Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in military or defense product development and production environments.
- Familiarity with military and commercial engineering standards.
- Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009 or ASME Y14.5-2018).
- Experience performing tolerance stack-up analyses.
- 2+ years of Creo modeling and drawing generation experience.
- Experience with ePDM/ePOM systems, preferably Windchill.
