Overview

The Staff Engineer, Electrical Design develops new electrical systems/circuits for various applications. Research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems, and capture them in schematics and system specifications. Test, simulate, validate and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed. Provide support throughout the manufacturing of the electrical systems they have designed.

The Staff Engineer, Electrical Design works in cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.

This role will be focused in the A&D space with consultation in Health Tech, Energy, and Industrial.

Detailed Description
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Provides technical leadership and direction to a sizable team of engineers. May be a recognized expert (go to person) in one or more technical areas.
  • Takes responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials, etc.).
  • Reviews and interprets customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contract.
  • Analyzes trade-offs in complex systems and recommends solutions. Develops deployment strategies and plans.
  • Leads the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinates site-wide deployment efforts.
  • May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
  • Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs—creation of schematics, bills of material, diagrams, drawings, etc.
  • Tests, simulates and measures (including troubleshooting) the performance of systems.
  • Keeps up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Liaises with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
  • Analyzes and interprets data and information.
  • Recommends modifications for systems.
  • Creates reports, minutes and updates.
  • Provides project management—ability to manage/lead complex, multiple line engineering projects, including technical, financial and people aspects, and create project/change management plans.
  • Has financial acumen and business planning—creates financial plans, aligns internally and externally, conducts risk and sensitivity analysis, and is knowledgeable about financial reporting, accounting and tax requirements.
  • Competencies may include coaching/mentoring, communication/negotiation/presentation, creative problem solving, customer interaction/ stakeholder management, quality & lean, working effectively with others, D/PFMEA, 8D/corrective action, equipment safety, design of experiments (DOE).
  • Requires Aerospace & Defense experience—ability to lead projects compliant with AS9100D, identify and design to MIL-STDs for various designs.

Physical Demands

Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required.
