About the RoleOur client, a global leader in advanced industrial manufacturing technologies, is seeking a Cost Accountant to support their onsite operations in Maple Grove, Minnesota. This role is a key contributor to financial accuracy and operational performance, helping the organization optimize production costs, strengthen internal controls, and enhance decision‑making across manufacturing teams.
Job DescriptionIn this role, you will analyze, track, and report on manufacturing cost data to ensure accuracy, improve efficiency, and drive profitability. You will partner closely with production, engineering, and leadership teams to maintain strong cost standards, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and support ongoing financial operations.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure costs are accurately charged to the correct departments
- Capture and classify cost data for products and product lines
- Oversee and participate in periodic cycle counts
- Compare actual costs to historical or projected costs and report variances
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Provide cost‑related data for business decisions and financial reporting
- Research and resolve discrepancies between actual and expected costs
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses and recommend cost reduction strategies
- Monitor financial activities and prepare related reports
- Recommend and implement process improvements
- Develop and maintain accurate standard costs for manufactured goods and services
- Administer internal controls and support audit activities
- Provide financial leadership to factory management
- Participate in production meetings to support shop floor analysis
- Partner with manufacturing and engineering teams to meet operational goals
- Lead and mentor a Staff Accountant
- Assist with cash flow projections and vendor relationship management
- Support internal and external financial audits
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- 5 or more years of cost accounting experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- 3 or more years of general ledger accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, standards, and regulations including GAAP and IFRS
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas
- Ability to work with and analyze large data sets
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience using a fully integrated ERP system
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Working knowledge of foreign currency and translation
- Experience with Quick Books
- Experience with MS Navision
- CPA certification
