About the JobA post-doctoral position is available in the Center for Drug Design at the Universityof
Minnesota College of Pharmacy. This one-year renewable position will be focused on studies of the effect of small molecule therapeutics ondisease pathology in multiple models of neurological disorders. The laboratoryintegrates several disciplines, including medicinal chemistry, pharmacology,computational biology, and has a strong translational focus, with activities inpreclinical studies and development of novel therapeutics and biomarkers forearly diagnosis.
70% Design and perform (1) cell culture and cell based assays (2) enzymaticreactions (3)
mouse experiments involving drug administration, behavioral and biochemical
assessment, immunohistochemistry, (4) various types of microscopy (5) computational
and experimental screening of compound libraries.
15% Submit periodic written reports with details of experimental procedure sand results. The
candidate will also be expected to write manuscripts reporting researchfindings, and to
participate in grant proposal writing.
5% Observe current laboratory safety practices and follow/update relevantprotocols.
5% Maintain a continually updated knowledge base of literature pertaining to specific
projects.
5% Assist with the organization and maintenance of the laboratory and equipment contained
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree with a major in Biological Sciences (including medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology,neuroscience), or a related discipline. At least two-year research experience inthe field of neuroscience would be a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with cell culture, animal handling, animal behaviorassessment, and microscopy is preferred. Proficiency in basic biology techniques including ELISA, SDS-PAGE, western blot, PCR, and other basic assays, is required.
Pay and BenefitsPay Range: $61,008; depending on education/qualifications/experience
