PositionSummary
The CAD/CAM Programmer is responsible for developing, programming, and optimizing fabrication programs for sheet metal manufacturing equipment including laser, punch, and press brake systems. This role supports manufacturing throughput by creating accurate nests, minimizing material waste, reducing setup time, and ensuring smooth production flow between Engineering and Fabrication.
The CAD/CAM Programmer works closely with Engineering, Production, Fabrication, and Supply Chain to support on‑time production and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Programming & Nesting- Create and optimize CNC programs for laser cutting equipment, turret punch equipment, and press brake operations
- Develop efficient sheet metal nests to maximize material utilization
- Group jobs/material thicknesses to reduce tooling and setup changes
- Maintain proper revision control for all fabrication programs
- Ensure programs align with released engineering drawings and BOMs
- Support fabrication operations with troubleshooting and program adjustments
- Coordinate with fabrication supervisors and operators on program improvements
- Prioritize programming work to support production schedules and bottleneck management
- Ensure fabrication programs are released accurately and on time
- Respond quickly to production issues affecting throughput
- Identify opportunities to reduce setup times, improve nesting efficiency, reduce scrap, and improve fabrication flow
- Support standardization initiatives for material thicknesses, sheet sizes, part orientation, and tooling strategies
- Participate in Kaizen and process improvement activities
- Maintain organized CAD/CAM file structure and revision history
- Archive obsolete programs and prevent outdated file usage
Ensure accurate communication of revision updates to fabrication - Assist in developing programming standards and documentation
- Experience with CAD/CAM programming in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with RADAN or similar CAD/CAM software
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
- Understanding of laser cutting, punch operations, and press brake forming
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
- Experience programming CNC lasers, CNC punch presses, and CNC press brakes
- HVAC or sheet metal manufacturing experience
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure
