The Engineering Technician – SMT supports daily manufacturing operations on the Surface Mount Technology production lines. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, machine programming, and troubleshooting to ensure consistent throughput, high quality, and minimal downtime. The technician works closely with engineering, operations, and quality teams to keep equipment performing at peak efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance on SMT equipment, including Fuji, MyCronic, BTU reflow ovens, and Koh Young inspection systems.
  • Create, modify, and optimize machine programs for placement machines, printers, reflow ovens, and inspection equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, software, and programming issues to quickly resolve line stoppages and improve uptime.
  • Assist in new product introductions (NPIs) by preparing programs, verifying documentation, and ensuring equipment readiness.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance throughput, yield, and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and program documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering on root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
  • Train operators and production staff on correct machine use, handling, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ensure all work follows safety standards, quality procedures, and manufacturing guidelines.
  • Provide technical support of tasks associated with manufacturing engineering initiatives including process, industrial, quality, and development engineering efforts.
  • Assist with the implementation of engineering projects.
  • Implement modifications or designs and assist in the building of custom circuits and adapters to interface a computer to special circuits and functions within a new product.
  • Install specialized test equipment in existing automated testers.
  • Have knowledge of electrical, electromechanical and pneumatic systems and principles of operation.
  • Have strong knowledge of the setup, operation, and maintenance of specific equipment sets used in manufacturing processes.
  • Have strong knowledge of mechanical assembly and fabrication procedures.
  • Have strong knowledge of electronic circuitry and testing and debugging procedures.
  • Have knowledge of computer programming and ability to use applications specific to this position (such as C++).
  • Have ability to read and interpret product specifications, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Have ability to use hand and power tools required for test assembly.
  • Have knowledge of personal computers and Windows applications.
  • Have excellent knowledge of quality standards.
  • Have ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal customers.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
  • Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
  • Duties require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions, sitting in confined work spaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
  • Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over 20 pounds.
Benefits

Hourly Salary Range: $28.55–$32.00 an hour.

Typical Experience
  • Two to Four years relevant experience.
