Machinist 3
Plan, layout and perform machining operations with manual mills, lathes, surface grinders and CNC mills. Perform bench work to construct, alter, and repair molds, fixtures, jigs, and assembly machines. Repairs are made by copying broken parts, from verbal instructions, and from concept drawings.
Work from complicated drawings, sketches, handbook formulas and specifications. In the absence of design drawings, proceed from verbal instructions and/or concept drawings, organize and determine work procedures and sequences, select materials in accordance with specifications.
Perform complex machining and grinding operations requiring complicated and unusual setups necessitating frequent improvising and adaptations of machines and tools.
Perform critical bench operations involving polishing, fitting and aligning component parts of fixtures, molds, and machines.
Create Solid Works models and programs for the plate fabrication department as needed.
Assist with set up of Molds.
Maintain and repair plastic injection molds to support production.
Build, design and maintain tools for production and instruct Department Lead Person, Supervisor or Machine Operators on their use, care, and operational methods and procedures.
Proceed on work assignments with minimum supervision and direction.
Responsible for quality of workmanship, dimensional accuracy and efficient operation of assigned projects.
Works under general supervision and gives no work direction to others.
Keeps facilities, materials, and work area clean and organized, exercising care in their use.
Uses safety practices and takes prompt action to correct problems.
Assists co-workers when necessary to meet work unit goals.
Actively seeks continuous improvement opportunities.
May be required to train other employees and assist in orientation of new employees.
Performs other duties as required and may be utilized in other areas and departments of manufacturing as workload may dictate.
Must possess specific certifications as defined by site operations.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of machine operations.
In-depth knowledge of product quality issues.
In depth knowledge of GDT
In depth knowledge of programs, macros,cam software
Ability to recognize errors in the g code and make edits prior to machining the work piece.
Ability to set up, operate, calibrate and maintain machines and tools.
Ability to recognize and address problems in the production process
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
Ability to work effectively with team members and lead the team to high quality production within tight deadlines.
Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and precise hand/eye co-ordination, sitting and or standing in confined work spaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over.
Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
Above demands are carried out within the local existing Health and Safety guidelines.
Eleven to fourteen years relevant experience
High school diploma and additional courses after high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience and a commitment towards further / additional education.
