Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Martin Marietta Upper Midwest Region is looking for a versatile Heavy Equipment Mechanic based out of our Maple Grove Maintenance Facility. This position will perform mechanical repairs on diesel powered mobile equipment as well as aggregate and asphalt plant equipment (loaders, dozers, crushers, conveyors, etc.). Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairs of heavy equipment, rebuilds, removal and installation of mechanical parts, and preventative maintenance on all types of diesel‑powered equipment.
This is a union position and membership in the Operating Engineers Local 49 is required, current member preferred.

This is a full‑time position that may require long hours, overtime, and weekend work with an average of 46 hours per week. This job operates 100% of the time in a surface‑mine setting or shop setting. This role will be based out of the maintenance facility in Maple Grove and will provide support to all Minnesota locations as needed.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Additional schooling/certifications a plus
- 3‑5 years heavy equipment experience
- A valid CDL (Class A or B) and excellent driving record
- Additional eligibility qualifications
- Knowledge of Cat ET/SIS, Volvo Prosis needed
- Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, and Volvo quarry/construction equipment/diesel engine repairs
- Must provide own hand tools

We are excited to share the base salary rate for this position is $29.94–$46.61. Conditions and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 49.
This is a safety‑sensitive role and Martin Marietta will continue to require drug testing that does include testing for cannabis/THC.
