School Psychologist Special Pupil Services
Maple Heights Board Of Education Job Description
Director of Special Pupil Services Provide psycho-educational information regarding individual children identified as having, or suspected to have a disability; contribute to the multi-factored evaluation as a part of the multi-disciplinary team
Basic Functions:
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Promote positive public relations by interacting tactfully and diplomatically with staff, students, parents, and public
- Project a positive image through professional appearance, attitude, and conversation
- Serve as a role model for students by acting as a responsible, intelligent citizen
- Ensure safety of students
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Enforce and comply with all Maple Heights Board of Education policies and procedures
- Performs all assigned duties in a complete, accurate, and timely manner
- Be available to staff and parents for consultation
- Provide individual and group counseling with handicapped and non-handicapped students and/or their parents when appropriate
- Participate in screening programs for children
- Facilitate contract with outside agencies when appropriate
- Participate in the identification and placement of handicapped children
- Recommend appropriate classroom management strategies for behavior management
- Responsible for implementing new practices or methods in the area of school psychology
- Maintain Medicaid logs
- Provide intensive psycho-educational evaluation of individual children identified as, or thought to be disabled
Other
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Assist the coordinator in implementing policies and procedures relating to special education
Qualifications:
- Graduate of professional degree in psychology from an accredited college or university
- Valid school psychologist certificate
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Such alternative to the above as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (including, but not limited to):
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to operate various office equipment
- Knowledge of adherence to IDEA. 1997
- Remain current in policies, procedures, and service delivery options in special education
