Full‑time faculty members are professional educators with a primary responsibility for instruction and management of assigned classes. The Reading and ESL Instructor will deliver quality instruction, assess student learning, manage classroom environments, promote continuous improvement, provide student guidance, pursue professional development, and actively participate collegially within the department and broader campus community. The final compensation offer will be determined based on academic credentials, relevant work and instructional experience.

- Deliver effective instruction, providing quality instruction reflective of current discipline standards and accurate, relevant, and engaging content using college‑approved curriculum and resources.
- Assess student learning, demonstrating reflective practice, including engagement in ongoing formative assessments and official departmental assessment.
- Manage classes and learning environments, fostering a positive classroom‑learning environment that is inclusive to all learners and ensures section‑508 accessibility.
- Promote continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning.
- Support learning through student engagement by incorporating pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem‑based activities, and other proven teaching strategies.
- Provide student guidance to help students develop academic habits for college success.
- Pursue professional development by staying current in the academic field.
- Actively participate collegially in department, campus, cross‑college, discipline‑specific, district, and community service activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in commencement, attending college functions, etc.
- Master’s degree in any field.
- 18 graduate credit hours in Literacy/Reading.
- 18 graduate hours in TESOL/TESL or a qualifying combination (Applied Linguistics, Education with Curriculum & Instruction or Language Arts Education emphasis, English, Linguistics, or Rhetoric & Composition).
- OR 12 graduate hours in a qualifying field and a CELTA certification OR 2 years teaching ESL in high school or an adult setting.
- Experience with coordination and placement of ESL students into skills‑based classes (speaking, listening, reading/writing, grammar).
- Two (2) years of teaching experience using interactive teaching techniques.
- Experience using assessment techniques to promote teaching and learning excellence.
- Demonstrated experience with current pedagogical and instructional methods.
- Demonstrated experience with utilizing a variety of classroom technologies, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with all constituencies of a diverse community.
- Demonstrated interest in and passion for teaching community college students.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Positions in this class typically require physical abilities such as feeling, grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary, requiring exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently or constantly.
