Salary Range: $85,000–$115,000, depending on experience and qualifications
About the RoleWe are seeking a hands‑on Senior Accountant to join the accounting team of a growing Minnesota‑based construction company. This position will own a broad range of general and technical accounting responsibilities, with a particular focus on lease accounting, fixed assets, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end close.
The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, enjoys working through complex accounting questions, and is comfortable taking ownership of work from research through resolution. This is not a narrowly specialized or review‑only position. The Senior Accountant will remain actively involved in day‑to‑day accounting while also helping improve processes and support an upcoming ERP implementation.

RequiredSkills and Qualifications
- At least 5-8 years of progressive, hands‑on accounting experience, with the ability to perform work at a Senior Accountant level.
- Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, general ledger activity, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Experience preparing journal entries and supporting month‑end close.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prepare reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve reconciling items.
- Experience with lease accounting under ASC 842, or a strong technical accounting foundation and the ability to learn and apply ASC 842 independently.
- Experience with fixed‑asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations.
- Working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, formulas, and the ability to analyze accounting data.
- Ability to explain the accounting rationale behind entries and decisions, not simply complete transactions based on an established process.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, well‑supported work.
- Ability to research and resolve accounting questions with limited direction.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite in Maplewood three days per week.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent hands‑on accounting experience.
Skills and Qualifications
- Broad accounting experience gained in an environment where accountants manage multiple responsibilities.
- Accounting experience within construction, engineering, manufacturing, or another project‑based industry.
- Project or job‑cost accounting experience.
- Direct experience maintaining lease schedules and preparing ASC 842 entries.
- Experience supporting an ERP implementation, upgrade, or accounting‑system conversion.
- Experience with accounting‑system testing, data validation, account mapping, or process documentation.
- Sales and use tax exposure.
- Experience supporting state registrations or similar compliance requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience improving or automating accounting workbooks and reconciliations.
- Experience working with external auditors.
- CPA certification or progress toward obtaining a CPA.
- Prepare, review, and post recurring and nonrecurring journal entries.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Research discrepancies, resolve reconciling items, and ensure account balances are accurate and properly supported.
- Apply strong debit, credit, and general ledger knowledge to a variety of accounting transactions.
- Assist with new or evolving accounting needs as the organization grows.
- Research technical accounting questions and collaborate with auditors or other resources when needed.
