The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleAs an Application Engineer – Aerospace & Defense, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.
- Building technical relationships across key customers in the aerospace Defense, Space, and/or MRO segments
- Translating customer needs into potential 3M solutions
- Connecting 3M technology to customer needs
- Understanding customer technology adoption and commercialization process and aligning 3M internal processes
- Providing application support and training to customers, including in-person visits and product installations
- Building and managing a new product pipeline/roadmap for priority Defense, Space, and/or MRO accounts, including advocating for new product development when needed
- Delivering the technical components of product spec-in
- Collaborating internally with Sales/Marketing, Product Platforms, and central R&D teams on technology and capability development
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
- Eight (8) years of application engineering, product development, new product commercialization, or other similar role translating customer needs into technical product performance criteria in a private, public, government, or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Masters’s or Ph.D. degree in a science or engineering discipline
- More than ten (10) years of application engineering, product development, new product commercialization, or other similar role translating customer needs into technical product performance criteria in a private, public, government or military environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of aerospace defense, MRO, and Space industry materials, technologies, processes, and specifications
- Direct experience working in the military, at a national lab, with Defense primes, with Space technology companies, within the MRO market, or with enabling technology companies and demonstrated understanding of Defense, Space, and/or MRO technology ecosystem
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex problems and identify innovative solutions
- Project management experience
- Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
- Travel: May include up to 25% domestic/international
- Relocation: May be authorized

The expected compensation range for this position is $164,612 - $201,193, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
