The Impact You’ll Make in this Role- Inventing new formulations that meet challenging expectations of automotive manufacturers and repair professionals
- Identifying and leading strategic programs of major importance to the division leading to innovative applications and extensions of new and existing technologies, products and/or businesses
- Leading scouting and technical development of adhesive products used in the vehicle repair process
- Collaborating with and/or leading cross functional teams to identify and deliver New Product Introduction (NPI) projects of significant value
- Developing a strong understanding of customer needs by learning best practices, visiting body shops, and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Driving successful product scale‑up from laboratory to manufacturing and assisting with troubleshooting process and product quality issues
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, material engineering, polymer science, or a related field (completed and verified prior to start).
- Three (3) years of experience formulating adhesives, coatings, or similar products in a private, public, government or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, material engineering, polymer science, or a related field
- History of successful product commercialization and/or technology introduction
- Expertise in epoxy, polyurethane, acrylate, and similar chemistries.
- Demonstrated ability to design experiments, statistically analyze test results, make data‑driven decisions, and deliver project results.
- Polymer / adhesive characterization experience using DSC, DMA, and rheology techniques
- Adhesive performance characterization such as universal tensile test equipment
- Strong understanding of chemical processing methods and pilot scale batch mixing.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and demonstration skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

This role follows an on‑site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN. - Travel:
May include up to 10% domestic/international travel. - Relocation:
May be authorized.
