Job Overview
Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the OR n’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. The Cardiovascular Surgical Technician receives a $2.50/hour augmentation. This position will work 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). Shift length is 8 hours on the day/evening shift, with rotating weekends and holidays. As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
You will support the surgical team and maintain safety and efficiency in the OR. Cases include, but are not limited to, general, dental, ear/nose/throat, endoscopy, vascular, thoracic, open heart, orthopedics, neurology, bariatrics, solid organ transplant, gynecologic, colorectal, urology, plastics, and Da Vinci robotics.
- Supplying appropriate instruments, sutures, and specialty items.
- Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
- Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
- Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
- Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
- Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
- Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
- Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
- Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
- Complete one of the following by hire date:
- Military Surgical Assistant; OR
- LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
- Surgical Technologist training
- At least 1 year of Cardiovascular experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers or ability to obtain by hire date.
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire.
- 1 to 3 years of surgical tech experience.
- Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of the population served.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.
- Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Prioritize and multi‑task in a complex work environment.
