Fairview is looking for a Lead Administrative Nursing Supervisor
- Patient Flow Specialist at our St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN.

The Lead ANS role is an exciting opportunity for someone who is ready to expand their impact beyond direct patient placement and help shape patient flow & operations. Schedule

This role is a .8 FTE (64 hours every 2 weeks) working primarily 8-hour day & evening shifts. Monday
- Friday with shifts between 7am-7am. Occasional 12-hour shifts. No regularly scheduled weekends.

Responsibilities

The Lead Administrative Nursing Supervisor
- Patient Flow Specialist role represents administration and management on a 24/7 basis in the provision of leadership to expedite and ensure efficient hospital operations. It guides in the appropriate placement and safe provision of patient care services which: address and meet clinical patient needs, employs wise and appropriate stewardship of resources, and assures and enhances a positive patient experience. Additionally, the Lead Administrative Nursing Supervisor serves as an operational lead for the Administrative Nursing Supervisor team by providing support in scheduling, training, and as a subject matter expert.

  • Patient Flow & Capacity Management
    • Monitor hospital capacity and patient throughput in real time.
    • Coordinate admissions, transfers, discharges, and inter-facility patient movement.
    • Identify, troubleshoot, and eliminate barriers impacting patient flow.
    • Partner with Patient Placement, care teams, and operational leaders to optimize bed utilization and patient access.
    • Lead and participate in daily capacity and throughput huddles.
    • Support surge planning and hospital-wide operational response efforts.
  • Operational Leadership
    • Serve as the administrative representative for hospital operations on assigned shifts.
    • Provide guidance and support to the Administrative Nursing Supervisor team, including scheduling, onboarding, competency management, and process improvement.
    • Respond to operational, patient, family, physician, and staff concerns, ensuring appropriate resolution and escalation.
    • Support hospital incident response, emergency operations, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Staffing & Resource Management
    • Coordinate staffing resources to meet patient care needs while maintaining operational efficiency.
    • Collaborate with staffing offices, nursing leaders, and Patient Placement teams to optimize workforce allocation.
    • Assist with resource management, problem solving, and operational decision making across department
  • Quality & Continuous Improvement
    • Monitor throughput, discharge, and capacity metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
    • Lead or support quality improvement initiatives focused on patient flow, operational efficiency, and patient experience.
    • Utilize data, dashboards, and reporting tools to drive informed operational decisions
Required Qualifications
  • 1 year supervisory/management experience in healthcare (may include Charge RN or council leadership)
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 3 years healthcare related leadership, supervisor, or management experience
  • 2 years Administrative Nursing Supervisor experience
