General FunctionCreates floral arrangements at the request of customers and fills necessary merchandising needs. Takes floral orders in person and over the telephone. Operates as a lead with the floral clerks.
Responsibilities- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, learns customers’ names, and addresses them by name when possible.
- Assists customers by escorting them to desired products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and forwarding customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to callers.
- Works with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Cleans, processes, and cuts flowers appropriately.
- Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Manager or Assistant Manager.
- Understands and processes FTD, inter‑store, Teleflora orders, and Internet orders.
- Inventories product, evaluates status, cares for damaged items, and replaces them when necessary.
- Fills customer orders completely and creates floral arrangements at their request promptly.
- Ensures floral products are fresh in the shop and throughout the store.
- Maintains a clean floral area.
- Takes special requests for products in person or over the telephone.
- Provides counsel to customers regarding plants and floral care.
- Identifies key areas to place specials within the store.
- Trains floral clerks on simple designs and how to take telephone orders.
- Orders flowers and supplies daily or as needed under the direction of the Floral Manager.
- Works on customer issues and product problems.
- Unloads trucks, places product in appropriate storage areas, and replenishes merchandise.
- Wraps flowers carefully to avoid damage.
- Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Reports to work on time when scheduled.
- Delivers product as necessary.
- Shares ideas for customer arrangements (funerals, weddings, anniversaries, etc.).
- Reads industry references, listens to floral experts, and remains receptive to new ideas.
- Assists with and may decorate for in‑store events.
- Assists in other areas of the store as needed.
- Performs other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Instructs, assigns work, reviews work, plans work of others, maintains standards, and coordinates activities.
- Has the authority to recommend disciplinary actions.
- Solves practical problems involving variables with limited standardization and interprets instructions.
- Performs arithmetic calculations with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Files, posts, and mails materials; copies data from one record to another.
- Interviewees to obtain basic information and guides people while providing basic direction.
- Understand the basics of floral products, care, handling, plant and flower identification, and explains product requirements to customers.
High School diploma or three years of similar or related work experience.
Physical RequirementsMust be able to physically perform medium work: exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Visual requirements: vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working ConditionsDuties are normally conducted in a store environment. Significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Some holidays may require extended hours.
Exposure to dirt, noise, dangerous chemicals/solvents, dampness, and temperature extremes.
Equipment UsedStandard tools and equipment in a floral environment including computer, underwater cutter, wire cutter, pricing gun, dosetron, scissors, knives, pick machine, register system, helium tank, and telephone.
ConfidentialityMaintains confidentiality on orders placed (including sender, recipient, order details, and cost).
CompensationHourly starting wage: $14.00 to $17.50 depending on experience.
