Department Head– Systems Administrator – Full Time

AdministrationResponsible for the management and supervision of Information Technology. This position reports to the Library Director. Has administrative authority in the absence of the Director and/or other senior department heads.
PersonnelSupervises information technology staff and consultants including hiring and training, conducting yearly evaluations, scheduling and overseeing timesheets.
Information TechnologyOversees maintenance of the library’s technology infrastructure, including computer hardware and software, servers, data networks, portable devices, audio-visual and other devices. Evaluates, recommends and implements new technologies. Provides instruction and coordination in the library’s Maker Space/Computer Lab.
WebmasterUpdates and maintains the library website. Coordinates creation of new website design and content.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of the Library’s IT infrastructure, including servers (on‑premise and cloud), network architecture, storage systems, and endpoint devices.
- Maintain, order and troubleshoot the staff and public computer workstations, printers and related equipment.
- Maintain licenses for current and future versions of library software, e.g., Microsoft Office, Deep Freeze, Envisionware, etc.
- Install, update, and troubleshoot software and hardware throughout the library:
Apple Mac Books, Mac Minis, Dell laptops, workstations and servers. - Oversee network performance and security, including VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, SD‑WAN, and wireless systems.
- Oversee the architecture, development, accessibility, and ongoing optimization of the Library’s website and digital presence.
- Develop and teach technology classes and services for patrons and staff of all ages and skill levels, e.g., Google Apps, Word Press, etc.
- Develop technology‑based programming for the library Create Space, e.g., NJ Makers Day, Maker Madness, and Maker Camp.
- Provide patron assistance in Library Business Center and Digital Device Clinics.
- Keep the Library current on new technology trends.
- Identify, develop, and enlarge our technology resources and digital collections (e.g., Ebscohost, Infobase, etc.).
- Serve as the liaison to Jersey Connect regarding network connectivity, e.g., router and network communications rack.
- Support and troubleshoot Library e‑content platforms: eBCCLS, Over Drive, Libby, Hoopla, RB Digital, etc.
- Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates tech support staff.
- Attend local, state and regional meetings and conferences related to digital services, computers and technology, e.g., BCCLS technology committee, Computers in Libraries, Mentor
NJ, etc. - Position requires evening and weekend hours.
- Other tasks may be assigned to the position as needed.
- Technology certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ required, and product specific certificates (Microsoft, Cisco) preferred.
- ALA accredited MLS and NJ Professional Librarian Certification desirable.
- Experience with library technology.
- Knowledge of and experience in maintaining computer hardware and software.
- Knowledge and skill in the support and deployment of Windows, Mac OSX, and iOS operating systems.
- Experience managing Windows Server environments including Hyper‑V, Failover Clusters, Domains, Active Directory and file shares.
- Working knowledge of networked building‑wide systems, e.g., HVAC, security cameras, automated door locking systems, Solar panel management, Lutron automated lighting, etc.
- Ability to diagnose and correct technical problems.
- Familiarity with web development, CMS platforms (e.g., Squarespace), and accessibility standards and API connections.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure, including VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and wireless systems (e.g., Cisco Meraki).
- Experience managing Zoom Workplace, VOIP phones, and Slack organization messaging platforms, or similar systems.
- Experience with 1
Password or similar password management tools. - Ability to instruct library users in computer use and applications.
- Ability to design and lead Maker Space activities for youth and adults.
- Familiarity with and strong enthusiasm for current and emerging technologies.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
