Position SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Start / VPK Lead Teacher to lead our Pre‑Kindergarten classroom at Stanley Switlik Elementary. The ideal candidate will implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that support cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of 3, 4 and 5‑year‑old children. You will work collaboratively with families, support staff, and district leadership to ensure a high‑quality educational experience.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and curriculum aligned with Head Start and Florida VPK standards
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports all learners
- Promote school readiness across all developmental domains (academic, social, emotional, physical)
- Supervise children at all times in the classroom, playground, and school settings
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate documentation and records
- Collaborate with families, support staff, and administrators to support student success
- Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized classroom environment
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, district policies, and safety regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (preferred or required depending on level)
- Meet Florida Head Start / VPK lead instructor credential requirements (e.g., emergent literacy training/FL Standards training as required).
- Ability to pass background screening and health requirements for employment.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with preschool‑aged children preferred (3–5 years old).
- Strong classroom management, communication, and teamwork skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Prior classroom experience in early childhood.
- Competitive salary based on degree and experience within the Monroe County School District Head Start / VPK salary schedule.

- Pre‑K Provider AA Associate Degree: $39,366.60
- Pre‑K Provider 1 (Bachelor’s, Non‑education): $49,100.00
- Pre‑K Provider 2 Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Ed: $62,700.00
