* Job Description:
** The primary function of this position is to perform electrical inspections for conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes in keeping with Monroe County’s mission, vision, and values; as well as perform electrical plan review for compliance with the Florida Building Code and Monroe County Code for permitting.
** ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
*** Receives inspection requests, logs requests, and records results in the database.
* Performs plan review for compliance with all current electrical codes.
* Performs all electrical field inspections for compliance with all applicable codes and permits.
* Researches equipment for compliance in related fields (electrical) and certifications from testing agencies.
* Inspects structural and non-structural construction for conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
* Assists permitting staff, design professionals, contractors, and the community with code and compliance information, via phone, in person, counter service, and email.
* Input plan review notes into the database.
* Performs floodplain inspections as required.
* Issues “stop work” orders for non-conformance or life-safety issues.
* Investigates complaints and coordinates with Code Enforcement.
* Inputs permit fees and plan review notes in the database.
* Performs other related job duties as assigned.
* In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
** QUALIFICATIONS

* Education and Experience:
** High school diploma/GED. Seven (7) years minimum of prior related work experience.
** Special
Qualifications:
** Valid Florida Driver’s license. Must possess a Standard Inspector (Electrical) license issued by the State of Florida and a Standard Plans Examiner (Electrical) license issued by the State of Florida, or applicant must demonstrate work experience and apply to the State of Florida for a provisional Inspector (Electrical) and Plans Examiner (Electrical) license immediately upon selection and obtain provisional licenses within 6 months from date of hire.
Residential (1 & 2 Family) Inspector/Plans Examiner preferred. Must obtain Standard Inspector (Electrical) license and Standard Plans Examiner (Electrical) licenses within 2 years from date of hire. Ability to obtain multiple licenses preferred.
** Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*** Ability to oversee the work of a team engaged in providing specific services, completing specific projects, or assisting other units.
* Ability to perform professional-level work dealing with data, people, and technology that relates to administrative, technical, scientific, engineering, accounting, legal, or managerial skills.
* Ability to follow basic guidelines for operational activities, and to make decisions that govern the activities and behaviors of staff members.
* Ability to oversee and manage more than two employees in the organization performing similar work.
** PHYSICAL DEMANDS
** The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
* Balancing:
Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
* Climbing:
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
* Crouching:
Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
* Feeling:
Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
* Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
