Position: A&P Mechanic (3)

Basic Scope / Purpose

The A&P Aircraft Mechanic performs skilled aircraft maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of District aircraft and related support equipment. The position supports safe, reliable, and mission‑ready aircraft operations for mosquito control, public health, environmental conservation, and other District operations. Work is performed in compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Administration requirements, public‑use aircraft operational expectations, District policies and procedures, and directives established by the Board of Commissioners and administered by the Executive Director.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. The position may be exposed to heat, humidity, noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, confined spaces, fuels, chemicals, fumes, odors, oils, and other aviation maintenance and mosquito control operational hazards. The employee may be required to wear personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, as required by task, policy, or regulation.

The position requires very heavy work, including the ability to frequently exert more than 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, twist, reach, or otherwise move objects below, at, and above the waist and shoulders. The position may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, crawling, working in awkward positions, and working around active aircraft and equipment.

Essential Functions

The following duties are considered essential and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair District aircraft to ensure aircraft remain safe, operational, and mission ready.
  • Perform pre‑flight, post‑flight, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance inspections in accordance with applicable inspection programs, maintenance practices, and District procedures.
  • Maintain and repair airframes, engines, components, systems, and related aircraft equipment as needed.
  • Document maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, discrepancies, corrective actions, and return‑to‑service information accurately and timely.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit required maintenance records, inspection documentation, and FAA‑related documents to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance as required.
  • Fuel aircraft and load aircraft with chemicals or application materials as required for District missions.
  • Calibrate, maintain, repair, fabricate, or modify aerial application equipment, including liquid and dry application systems, to support effective mosquito control operations.
  • Prepare requisitions, work orders, and parts/material requests under the direction of the Director of Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Operate forklifts, vehicles, material‑handling equipment, and other ground support equipment as needed.
  • Assist with ground operations, including maintenance, repair, and operation of vehicles, spray equipment, and related support equipment when necessary.
  • Provide field support at aircraft operation sites when aircraft operations exceed available field support capacity.
  • Perform routine facility maintenance and repair to support safe and efficient aviation maintenance operations.
  • Follow all Federal, State, and District safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment, respiratory protection when required, and safe handling of chemicals, fuels, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the changing needs of public health, environmental conservation, aircraft operations, and the District.
