Job Description

The Town of Marblehead is a historic, coastal community of approximately 20,000 residents, located just 18 miles north of Boston. Marblehead Public Schools serves a student population of about 2,600 students from PreK‑12 across two elementary schools, one upper elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. The district employs roughly 650 faculty and staff members. Marblehead High School serves grades 9‑12 with a total enrollment of approximately 870 students.

As a School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor, you will join a collaborative student services department that includes teachers, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, school counselors, and fellow social workers who are passionate about supporting all student needs to maximize inclusive opportunities for all students.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Participate in pre‑referral conferences with school personnel to determine appropriate interventions for students.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students requiring social/emotional support, including social/emotional group lessons.
  • Cooperate and consult as a team member with teachers, principals and other school personnel to diagnose, evaluate and recommend social/emotional‑based interventions for students.
  • Offer crisis intervention and conflict resolution services when requested by school personnel.
  • Serve as a referral agent and case manager for students and parents, developing a network of social services with community agencies.
  • Coordinate outreach and follow‑up for students referred because of attendance problems.
  • Compile, summarize, maintain, and submit data or other records of students referred for appraisal to appropriate school personnel.
  • Safeguard students’ right to privacy against disclosure of information in the student’s case history, in accordance with applicable laws and systemwide policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of and conform to state and systemwide regulations and guidelines on student records.
  • Advocate for equal educational opportunity for all individuals, regardless of race, color, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, homelessness, or disability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training and experience in conflict resolution techniques.
  • Experience providing consultation services, including workshops to professionals related to child development, behavior modification, and adolescent issues.
  • Knowledge of or experience with SBIRT.
  • Knowledge of or experience with crisis intervention/management training.
Job Requirements
  • MA DESE Licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker.
  • Evidence of mastery of social case work techniques.
  • Acceptance of the dynamics of families from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to complete home visits as directed.
  • Familiarity in working with external consultants, resource personnel, community groups, etc. (i.e., wraparound services).
  • Ability to produce concise reports concerning relevant developmental, social, and medical information.
  • CORI check and fingerprinting required.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
