Services include preventative maintenance inspections (PMI), rolling road brake testing, and expert support for digital, analogue, and smart tachograph systems.

The team also manages MOT preparation and presentation, as well as flexible maintenance scheduling tailored to operator licence requirements. G & CA Lombardo Ltd focuses on supporting fleet operators so they can stay on the road while the workshop needs are fully managed.

Role Description

The HGV Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in March, responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy goods vehicles. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out PMI checks, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, completing brake tests, and preparing vehicles for MOT inspections. The technician will work with tachograph systems, ensuring accurate fitting, calibration, and compliance with regulations. Responsibilities also include maintaining service records, following health and safety procedures, and communicating clearly with colleagues and customers about vehicle status and required work.

The role involves working within scheduled maintenance intervals while responding to urgent repair needs to keep fleet vehicles safe and operational.

Qualifications
  • Strong HGV maintenance and repair skills, including diagnostics for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with PMI processes, brake testing equipment, and MOT preparation for commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge of tachograph systems (digital, analogue, smart), fitting, calibration, and legal compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, service schedules, and compliance requirements.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in heavy vehicle engineering or a related field.
  • Full, valid driving licence; HGV licence is highly beneficial.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a safety-focused approach to all tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a workshop team, with clear communication skills.
  • Previous experience in fleet or commercial vehicle workshops is essential.
