Position: Accountant I

Responsibilities

  • Perform accounting functions for assigned accounts, including entry and posting of financial data.
  • Prepare and approve journal entries.
  • Reconcile accounts and prepare reconciliations.
  • Perform calculations and enter data into computer systems.
  • Research and correct errors as required.
  • Prepare tax forms and maintain financial records.
  • Prepare and submit related reports.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive files and documentation for assigned funds and account groups, ensuring compliance with policies, GAAP, and regulatory standards.
  • Receive and disburse funds: receive cash or financial instruments, prepare receipts, and document receipt of funds into appropriate database.
  • Process payments and communicate financial transactions to appropriate entities.
  • Process accounts payable documentation: review, verify, and enter invoices, purchase orders, and other documents into the accounting system; print, verify, and obtain signatures; send payments to vendors.
  • Process accounts receivable documentation: record and reconcile payments received, including taxes, utilities, etc.; review receipts and escrow accounts; prepare journal entries and spreadsheets.
  • Reconcile bank statements and prepare journal entries to the general ledger from bank reconciliations; coordinate corrections with bank personnel.
  • Participate in year‑end closing processes and assist internal and external auditors by providing requested data and reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • One year of experience in accounts payable and receivable or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light-weight items (5‑10 pounds).
  • Ability to work extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
