Accounting Manager - Construction

A growing general contractor is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager with a clear path to Controller
. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity responsible for overseeing the company's accounting function, including month-end close, job cost accounting, Work in Progress (WIP), financial reporting, payroll, and the development of the accounting team. This position reports directly to ownership and plays a key role in the company's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

• Own the full-cycle month-end close process, including the close calendar, journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Ensure revenue recognition compliance under ASC 606 using the cost-to-cost method.

Construction & Job Cost Accounting

• Own and maintain the monthly Work in Progress (WIP) schedule, including over/under billing analysis, WIP adjustments, and job closeout.
• Ensure WIP accuracy for ownership, banking relationships, and surety reporting.
• Participate in monthly cost projection meetings with project management.
• Identify job cost coding discrepancies and process reclassification journal entries as needed.
• Partner with project managers and project accounting to ensure accurate billings, retainage, and subcontractor cost reporting.

Payroll & Administration

• Review and process bi-weekly payroll for a salaried workforce.
• Maintain PTO accruals and ensure accurate tracking of employee leave balances.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• 2+ years of construction accounting experience with a general contractor or subcontractor.
• Hands-on experience managing a Work in Progress (WIP) schedule.
• Strong knowledge of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition under ASC 606.
• Experience independently managing the full month-end close process.
• Solid understanding of GAAP, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Payroll processing experience.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
